So, there you go. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows opened yesterday. I miss miss miss Harry, Hermione and Ron. They are my most favorite people in the literary world. Promise.

I made up my mind that I’m going to watch on the first day. (Demmmnnn, I didn’t know there would be advance screening here in the country.) So, I asked my friends if they could join me on the first day in the last full show. Sorry, it has to be last full show. I had a class yesterday and as much as I want to skip it, I couldn’t.

I retrieved my login details to www.sureseats.com because I do not have time to go personally and reserve seats. Sad to say, the only available schedules that I could reserve a seat is the 9.30pm and 10.55pm. For some unknown reason, I couldn’t reserve a seat on 10.10pm screening. So we took the 10.55pm schedule, so much for wanting to watch on a first day. Well, technically, I watched on the first day.

Anyway, we were in Trinoma at 9.30pm. We purchased the 10.30pm screening. So there goes my SureSeats membership, now my account is locked out because we didn’t claim the later reservation.

So we grabbed a bucket of popcorn, and lined up with the kids (lol). The start of the movie is a little poignant. We saw Harry sending the Dursleys away, Hermione casting Obliviate spell on her parents and Ron with the Weasleys. Then, we saw Snape and Voldemort. Forgive me, but is it mercy that I saw in Snape’s eyes in seeing Charity Burbage being tortured by Voldemort? Then, we saw Nagini. I didn’t expect him to be thaaat big. I do have a poor poor imagination.

I love love love Dobby here. He’s very funny especially when he accompanied Kreacher in bringing Mundungus (which is not part of the book, btw). And when he died, I think I lost a friend as well. The added lines are just heartbreaking. You couldn’t help but cry.

By the way, I dislike the part where they show Grindelwald telling Voldemort that Dumbledore had the Elder Wand. That is so not true, the book had it in him as part of his remorse to every single bad thing he’d done. But well, life could not be perfect.

I hope in the second installment, Neville would have way better screen time. He is my next favorite person in the series. But what else do we expect on the second installment? As much as I could remember from the book, the break in to Gringgots is not yet shown and then also the Battle of Hogwarts. I wonder if the movie would stretch to 3 hours again. But I do not mind honestly.

I enjoyed the light bantering of the characters. Every one is at their best. But what I love the most in the movie is how they show the friendship between the three characters – Harry dancing with Hermione when the latter is sad on Ron’s departure, Hermione comforting/saving Harry in the Godric’s Hollow and Ron saving Harry in the lake among others. While watching the movie, all I could ever wish is to have friends like them.

Over-all, I think that this movie installment is the most faithful to the book. It is also visually entertaining. I can’t wait for the second installment.

This film is special for more reasons than one. After DHOOM 2 and JODHAA AKBAR, it sees the re-union of two of the finest actors in the film industry- Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Director Sanjay Leela Bansali is donning the director's hat after almost three years. It also deals with a very sensitive issue of Euthanasia (mercy killing).

He was the best magician in town. But a fatal accident left Ethan Mascarenhas (Hrithik Roshan) paralysed and bedridden for life. Presently hosting a Radio show 'Hello Zindagi' Ethan spreads hope to listeners through his inimitable wit and humour. For twelve years, he's being aided by nurse Sofia D'Souza (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), who's much more than a nurse.

On the fourteenth anniversary of his accident, Ethan decides to make a petition to the court for Euthanasia (He prefers calling it Ethanasia). This leaves his best friend and lawyer Devyani (Shernaz Patel) and Sofia in complete disarray. Meanwhile, a young man named Omar Siddiqui (Aditya Roy Kapoor) enters Ethan's world with a steadfast desire to learn magic from him.

First things first. GUZAARISH is not an abstract and ambiguous film. It's a simply narrated film made with a lot of heart. Although it's sensitive, it never gets dukhi. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has treated the grave issue of mercy killing with maturity. Although it's about a suffering person who wants to end his life, its message is about celebrating life. The best part about the film is that it involves you as a viewer. You surely feel for Ethan's plight. He leaves you smiling in many scenes and moist-eyed in some.

The first half is so breezy that you don't realise when it gets over. The second half is a bit of a drag. Like KAL HO NAA HO and the more recent PAA, GUZAARISH's narrative is very light-hearted laden with humorous moments. Ethan says, 'God pe bharosa hai, isiliye I am dying to meet him.' Also, the scene in which Sofia gives Ethan a leg massage is uproarious.

There are some really poignant moments that leave a lasting impression. Ethan watches a scarecrow on a field, which is symbolic to his own condition. The court-room scenes are just too good. While you expect Ethan to give a long monologue, he conveys everything through his 60-seconds magic trick.

GUZAARISH also has a unique love story between Ethan and Sofia to boast off. It's refreshing and endearing at the same time. The way in which Sofia takes care of Ethan is heartening.

Like most Sanjay Leela Bhansali's films (HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM DEVDAS, BLACK, SAAWARIYA), GUZAARISH is visually stunning. Each and every frame is meticulously shot. Cinematographer Sudeep K. Chatterjee captures some awe-inspiring magic scenes through his lens. Bhavani Iyer and Vibhu Puri's dialogues are excellent. Sanjay's music goes very well with the film.

Hrithik Roshan is outstanding. He spreads his magic and how! This can easily be termed as one of the finest performances of his career. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan delivers a good performance. She's completely dazzling in the Udi song. Shernaz Patel performs her role brilliantly. Watch out for the argument scene between Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Shernaz Patel. Aditya Roy Kapoor plays his part well. Monikangana Dutta doesn't have any scope. Makrand Deshpande was not required. Suhel Seth is very good and so is Rajit Kapoor.

GUZAARISH is poignant, amazing and simply 'magical'. A sincere 'guzaarish', please go watch it.

The wedding of Dhayanidhi Alagiri, one of the successful producers and distributors of Tamil cinema, is going to be a high profile affair with top guns of Indian politics taking part in it.

The temple city of Madurai is all geared up for the high profile wedding of Union Minister and DMK strongman M K Alagiri”s son Durai Dayanidhi tomorrow.

The city wore a festive look with high power lights and serial bulbs illuminating the main roads leading to the Tamukkam ground where the wedding of Dayanidhi with Anusha Sitaraman, daughter of a Chennai based lawyer,is being held.
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister and DMK senior leader K Anbhazhagan will preside over the wedding ceremony.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will also be present to bless his grandson.
AICC president Sonia Gandhi will not be attending the November 18 wedding Union minister and DMK strongman M K Alagiri’s son. Sources said the Congress chief will not be able to attend the high-profile wedding and would instead send a message to the family. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s plans have not been finalised yet.

Alagiri had personally invited the top Congress duo to his son Durai Dayanidhi’s wedding in Madurai. While some may link the Congress president’s absence from the wedding with the drama over 2G spectrum, the resignation should not be seen as a message that the Congress is planning to snap ties with DMK, sources said.

Meanwhile, the temple city is gearing up for the wedding of the season, which is also expected to showcase the coming together of the various members of the DMK’s first family.

Global markets advanced early in the month as the fresh round of quantitative easing (QE2) in the US boosted risk appetite. Economic data was by and large positive which added momentum to global markets. Commodities (mainly precious metals and Crude) rallied in anticipation of weakness in US dollar post the Federal Reserve’s USD 600 bn QE plan. The IPO of Coal India Ltd sailed through smoothly and also ensured handsome listing gains for investors.

However, fresh concerns on some of the smaller European economies, potential further monetary tightening in China and sharp fall in some of the Asian markets led to a fall in markets in second week of the month.

In the US, the much anticipated QE2 was announced wherein the Fed Reserve said it will buy back bonds worth USD600bn from the markets. The idea is to keep bonds yields under check and stimulate inflation through infusion of liquidity in the financial system. From a market viewpoint, the QE2 provides a further boost to emerging markets as fresh liquidity will flow into them in search for higher returns. However, from an economic viewpoint, the QE2 may throw several challenges for India, especially in containing inflation. Following the QE2 announcement, there has been firming up in the prices of Crude oil, which has reached USD 87 per barrel. For India, this would mean upward pressure on inflation (not to mention further subsidy losses for oil marketing companies like HPCL, BPCL and IOC).

A newly e-literate village paanwala’s obsession with Google has blown the lid off a unique NREGS scam in Porbandar. The motley bunch of beneficiaries include affluent NRIs, doctors, government officials, teachers and well-off farmers — all shown as unemployed village labourers holding NREGS job cards. So far, the money siphoned off comes to nearly Rs 1 crore.

On paper, there are 963 NREGS job cardholders at Kotda village in Kutiyana taluka of Porbandar district. Records show they have been paid over Rs 95 lakh for their ‘labour’ over the last three years. In reality though, none of them have ever dug wells or built roads in their lives or actually received any money for the same under NREGS or otherwise.

The scam came to light after Aslam Khokhar (37), a Class X drop-out and a paan shop owner in Kutiyana learnt how to use computers and searched NREGS on Google. “I was thrilled to find every detail of NREGS work in our area on the website. But I then came across the job card of a friend, who is a government employee. I searched and found there are doctors, teachers and NRIs I personally know in the village, listed as ‘labourers’ on the site,” said Khokar.

Gujarat paanwala googles NREGS, reveals Rs 1-cr scam Veja Modedara, an independent councilor at Kutiyana taluka panchayat, and Congress worker like Bhanukant Odedara soon joined hands with Khokhar. The trio conducted door-to-door meetings with villagers named in the website and found they had neither worked on any NREGS site nor received any wages.

Dell just did something weird: it has rebranded two affordable ZTE Android handsets and launched them in India as Dell devices.

Said handsets are the ZTE Racer and the ZTE Blade (also know as Orange San Francisco), which are marketed as Dell XCD28 and Dell XCD35, respectively, in India.

Of course, it's not uncommon for big companies to sell hardware made by others, but both these handsets are already available outside India, where they have nothing to do with Dell's brand.

The Fitzgerald’s story has become a popular legend through a song by Canadian folksinger Gordon Lightfoot – and the cause of her loss remains a mystery thirty-five years later.
Madison (11/9/2010) -- The intense and dangerous wind storm and accompanying high waves the Great Lakes states experienced in late October is thought to be the same kind of storm that occurred on Lake Superior causing the fatal wreck of the ship Edmund Fitzgerald 35 years ago on Wednesday. A University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute-funded researcher is studying extreme waves in hopes of preventing future tragedies.

Extratropical cyclones are characterized by very strong winds carried over a long distance generating large waves. Buoys on the northern part of Lake Superior recorded waves as high as 27 feet in the recent storm. But the lake might have been even rougher during the Edmund Fitzgerald storm on Nov. 10, 1975, according to a scientific process called hindcasting, the opposite of forecasting.

Using a combination of observational data and computer modeling, scientists at NOAA’s National Weather Service and the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory in Michigan show that sustained winds were likely blowing at 50 to 60 knots, roughly 57 to 69 miles per hour. Winds of that velocity would have generated waves about 24.6 feet high.

Such rough conditions could have produced an individual wave 46 feet high, although “rare and unlikely,” according to the NOAA scientists. No one will know exactly what caused the demise of the Edmund Fitzgerald because all 29 crew members perished. However, computer models showed that one such wave – known as a freak, rogue or giant wave – occurred at the exact time and location of the ship’s sinking.

Freak waves are exceptionally large, steep and asymmetric and often occur in the Great Lakes, according to University of Wisconsin-Madison researcher Chin-Hsien Wu. He is currently investigating the conditions and locations prone to producing the dangerous waves, which can take down a vessel like the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Freak waves can also be dangerous to kayakers and recreational boaters. Wu is particularly interested in the potential for rogue waves to occur in the Apostle Islands off the north shore of Lake Superior.

“The occurrence of extreme waves is still a mysterious phenomenon in the field of fluid mechanics,” said Wu, professor of civil and environmental engineering. The Apostle Islands include a complex network of islands and shoals that under the right wind conditions are likely to produce freak waves.

Using funds provided by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute, Wu is using a combination of wave gauge instrumentations and computer models to better understand the likelihood of extreme waves occurring at the Mawikwe Bay Sea Caves, a place that is popular, but also potentially dangerous, to sea kayakers who enjoy viewing the sea caves from the water. Since wave measurements are critical for safety, data must be transmitted in real-time via a website to alert paddlers to current wave conditions. The system was field tested in the summer and could be fully operational next year.

Improving knowledge of how extreme waves are created should prove invaluable to prevent further tragedies like the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Several commemorative activities are planned for tomorrow, including in River Rogue, Mich., near where the ship was built in 1958. The announcement of Prithvi Chavan's name was made by Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Congress sources said hours after Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan was asked by Congress president Sonia Gandhi to submit his resignation to Governor K Sankarnarayanan, Union Ministers Prithviraj Chavan and Sushil Kumar Shinde appeared to be locked in the race to be his successor.

Late on Tuesday evening, the Congress Legislature Party, in the presence of central observers Pranab Mukherjee and A K Antony, passed a one-line resolution authorising the Congress president to pick the new chief minister of Maharashtra.
The Congress's coalition partner, the NCP, was learnt to be finalising a succession plan of its own. Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal is likely to be replaced by Ajit Pawar. Senior NCP leaders including Union Minister Praful Patel and veterans D P Tripathi and Tariq Anwar are scheduled to attend the NCP Legislature Party meeting in Mumbai on Wednesday in which Bhujbal's successor is likely to be picked, sources said.
Earlier on Tuesday, in a clean-up act clearly aimed at pre-empting the Opposition from raising the issue of alleged irregular allotments in the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society in Mumbai and alleged corruption in the Commonwealth Games, Sonia Gandhi decided to accept the resignation of Chief Minister Chavan. She also got CWG Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi to quit the post of secretary, Congress Parliamentary Party.
Chavan had earlier offered his resignation to the Congress president in the wake of the controversy over the allotment of flats to his relatives in Adarsh. The Congress high command asked Mukherjee and Antony to submit a report, buying time before the visit of President Barack Obama to Mumbai. Chavan was asked to resign shortly after Obama flew out of India this morning.Party general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who usually refrains from commenting on intra-party affairs, spelt out the criteria for Chavan's successor. He told reporters at Parliament House that the next CM should be "capable and (someone who) can deliver". Asked if the next CM has to be "clean", he said, "Of course".

Rahul's comments could have a bearing on Shinde's prospects. The Union Power Minister was chief minister of Maharashtra when Adarsh was given final clearance. One of his associates was also reported to have got a flat in the building. On Tuesday evening, there was apprehension in Congress circles that his return as CM could hand more ammunition to the Opposition.
Sources said former Union Minister Balasaheb Vikhe-Patil's advanced age -- he is 78 -- could go against him, as could the fact that he was a Shiv Sena Minister in the NDA government. Sonia Gandhi was learnt to have spoken to NCP chief Sharad Pawar earlier in the day. Both leaders were said to be disinclined to hand over the reins of the government of such a crucial state to a former Shiv Sena man.
State Agriculture Minister Balasaheb Thorat had "only an outside chance, if at all", sources said.
Earlier, Mukherjee had indicated that Chavan's resignation had been accepted on the basis of "perception". "I am not going to make a value judgement. It was not a regular inquiry commission... We went on certain aspects. Political decisions are taken many times on perception and based on certain facts," he said in New Delhi.

On 8 November 1895 Roentgen (Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen of Germany, 1845-1923), a physics professor and rector of the University of Wuerzburg in Germany earnestly conduct research cathode ray tube. He wrapped the tube with a black paper to prevent leaks fotoluminesensi from the tube to the outside.

Because not deflected by magnetic fields, then one knows that X-rays vary with cathode rays. At that time not yet discovered the phenomenon of interference and diffraction. Hence comes the competition between particle theory with the wave theory to explain the essence / substance of the X-rays.

Particle theory put forward among others by W.H. Bragg, wave theory put forward among others by Stokes and CG Barkla. Since then the wave theory is supported by more people. In 1912, the phenomenon of X-ray diffraction by crystals was discovered by Max von Laue and then to ensure that X-rays are electromagnetic waves.

The weather office has predicted that cyclone Jal is likely to cross north Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coasts by Sunday evening.

The weather office has sounded cyclone alert to coastal regions of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rainfall is expected to lash the coastal Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

The fishermen have been asked not to venture into the sea.

Cyclone Jal at present is moving along with eastern and northern coasts of Sri Lanka.

The storm will bring rain or thundershowers at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south coastal Andhra Pradesh from Saturday morning, it said.

The Andhra Pradesh government today directed collectors of four coastal districts to evacuate people in low-lying areas to safety ahead of severe cyclone 'Jal' crossing the Bay of Bengal coast close to Nellore.

'Jal' is expected to cross the coast late tomorrow evening and cause extensive damage in districts like Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur and Nellore. The cyclone may also affect Chittoor district in Rayalaseema region, according to state revenue minister Dharmana Prasada Rao.

Personnel from National Disaster Response Force in Arakkonam in Tamil Nadu have been positioned in Nellore to assist in rescue and relief operations. The Army and Air Force have also been put on alert, while the Navy has been requested to arrange boats and keep helicopters ready for rescue operations, Rao said.

Briefing newsmen here after a high-level review meeting chaired by chief minister K Rosaiah on the severe cyclone that threatened AP coast, the minister said 35 mandals in four coastal districts were likely to face brunt of 'Jal'.

"Wind with a speed of 120-140 kms and a heavy rainfall of 25 cms are likely under the impact of the severe cyclone. Accordingly, we have directed the district Collectors to evacuate people in these mandals and lodge them in relief camps to be opened in the local schools," he added.

The state government was taking all steps to face the cyclone and minimise loss of human lives and destruction of properties, he said.

Senior IAS officers, who previously served as Collectors were being deputed as special officers to the affected districts to supervise the rescue operations and provide necessary guidance to the administration.

Elected representatives have been asked to help the administration in moving out people from vulnerable areas to safety, the minister said. (the times of india)

Follywood flashback Director: Vipul Shah Actors: Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Rating: ** First half of Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om, a lovably nostalgic take on ’70s Bollywood, I suspect, also inspired the first chapter of several films planned after that movie’s release.

Om Shanti Om was part-cinema, part-spoof, enjoyed by all, and the Diwali blockbuster of 2007. Two to three years is roughly how long it should take for an inspiration to be green-lit and turned into full-on, big-budget film. Hence, Action Replay (this one), Golmaal 3 (the movie at the theatre next to it), some you’ve just seen (Once Upon A Time In Mumbai), and are likely to watch soon (Yamla Pagla Deewana etc). You’re certifiably old when your own entertainment is considered retro for its time.

This one isn’t intended for those who grew up in the ’70s. It’s for those who can imagine the decade from its films and fashion alone — the kind of nostalgia that demands no realism; is perfect for charming, escapist, candyfloss entertainment. This film bears all of it, but in merely small, scattered parts.

ACTION REPLAYY is the fifth film Vipul Shah and Akshay Kumar have done together after AANKHEN, WAQT, NAMASTEY LONDON and SINGH IS KINNG [which was produced by him and directed by Anees Bazmee] and it’s evident that the two share great work chemistry. Also, I genuinely feel that Vipul’s script sense is good, he likes to attempt diverse genres, exploring new territories each time he attempts a film.

When attempting a movie on a concept like time travel, it’s imperative that the writing should be so persuasive that the viewer is influenced into believing that people can travel into the past or future. In this case, a little bit of additional gyan would have only enhanced the impact of the story, but whatever minimal is said about time travel in the film doesn’t register effectively, besides the fact that the time machine itself looks tacky and tawdry and does very little in convincing you that this piece of scrap can really transport you into a departed era, 1975 in this case.

Also, once the protagonist reaches the former period to set things right for the family, it just left me wondering how it would improve his present scenario. Frankly, the screenplay writing is flawed and a few tracks just don’t cut ice. The track involving Rannvijay is lackluster and least convincing, also the track involving the warring neighbours [Om Puri and Kirron Kher] is half-baked, the portions involving Randhir Kapoor and also Neha Dhupia are undeveloped and the climax [the long chase] is far from comic. The blame falls completely on screenplay writers Suresh Nair, Ritesh Shah and Aatish Kapadia for coming up with an unimaginative screenplay, despite having a brilliant concept on hand.

What really salvages the otherwise flawed script is the pace and the length of the film and of course, the performances of its principal cast. The film moves at a brisk pace, giving you little time to think, although I wish to add that if a couple of scenes from the first hour are deleted, the second hour would get a bit more impactful. Yet, all said and done, Vipul Shah seems to have kept a strict vigil on the length of the film, not allowing it to over-exceed and making it less burdensome and more enjoyable for the viewer. However, the film is not a patch on his earlier works, especially WAQT and NAMASTEY LONDON. He’s made far superior films in the past.

Pritam comes up with a likable score, with ‘Zor Ka Jhatka’ leaving a zor ka jhatka from the very onset itself. ‘O Bekhabar’ is soothing and reminds you of a Yash Chopra composition, while ‘Nakhre’ is catchy and hummable. Sejal Shah’s cinematography is alright.

I’d like to make a specific note of Salim-Sulaiman’s background score, which is amongst the best of 2010. The duo’s contribution to the film is immense, since even an ordinary sequence gets enhanced with the right sound. The costumes and styling deserve brownie points, while the sets of the bygone era are realistic, except for the time machine, which, like I pointed out earlier, looks outright tacky.

Both Akshay and Aishwarya remain faithful to their characters and come up with winning performances. It requires a lot of courage for a good looking man like Akshay to look the opposite of what he is, with buck teeth and neck-length hair, and he carries it off convincingly. He’s wonderful in both young and old parts. Ditto for Aishwarya, who enacts the over the top Mala with understanding of the character. Even the elderly Mala has been effectively portrayed by her.

The real surprise is Aditya Roy Kapur, who looks extremely persuasive as the demoralized and dispirited son of Akshay-Ash. He’s fantastic. This act should open new vistas for the youngster. Distinguished actors like Om Puri, Kirron Kher and Rajpal Yadav come across as mere props with sketchy characterizations. They are under-utilized, but despite this they give all their might and power to the roles. Rannvijay is least convincing, while Randhir Kapoor and Neha Dhupia are wasted.

On the whole, ACTION RELAYY is a light-hearted rom-com that should be viewed without really seeking much rationale or logic behind every action and reaction. If you go with that in mind, chances are you might like the experience. A slightly dreary first hour, but a racy second hour with top notch performances makes it a decent watch this Diwali.

The future is here – if you're suggestible enough to believe all of the Kinect hype – and buttons and analogue sticks are out, voice-recognition and motion control is in. From the perspective of a hardened console gamer however, Kinect arrives with mixed prospects, where on one hand the technology is remarkably exciting, but on the other, the line-up of games announced thus far seems to be firmly aimed at an audience that you might not necessarily associate with Xbox 360. Microsoft is clearly shooting for a slice of the lucrative casual market then, but can it succeed?

On paper, the technology crammed into Kinect's shiny black shell is genuinely impressive, and despite rumours that the capabilities of the device have been stripped back and reduced for launch, there's one thing that's evident from the very moment that you step in front of Kinect, and that's that it works... and it works well. In fact, it's quite a feat of functionality. Easy to set up, and intuitive and accessible enough for a small child, complete gaming virgin or desiccated grandmother to grasp within seconds, Kinect's user interface is clearly and logically laid out and simply makes perfect sense.

Signing in is a case of merely setting up the camera's facial recognition and then waving your hand, at which point Kinect will see your gurning phisog, know it and log you into your account, with your new, more human-proportioned Avatar. In the bottom-right corner of the dashboard, there's a heat-sensitive image highlighting active appendages in purple, so if it's all working properly, you'll be a sexy white silhouette with glowing lavender hands. Kinect also makes constant adjustments to optimise its set up, tilting and tweaking itself to ensure that it always has its eye on you. Scary, but cool.

That brings us neatly onto the sensors themselves, which do a bang up job in tracking a spectrum of gestures, from slightly more subtle motions to broad strokes of your arms, legs and the rest of your body. In games, this obviously enables you to run on the spot and jump to leap hurdles, swing your arm to bowl, do some Tai-Chi, steer a raft careering down some rapids or stroke a tiger cub, but for movies it enables you to seamlessly navigate through streaming video quickly and easily. Something to show off to your friends if nothing else.

If all of this sounds gimmicky so far – and let's face it, it's nothing a controller can't do, really – then perhaps Kinect's video chat might win you over. Seeing Kinect's video chat in action made us sit up and take notice, as Kinect is able to actively track you as you talk, so you can walk around the room, blathering away and you'll be kept in the frame. Sit down next to another person in the room with you, and Kinect will switch in a heartbeat to frame both of you on-screen. That it works across PC, MSN and mobile devices is a massive tick in the plus box for Kinect, and a genuinely useful function.

Voice chat has also been upgraded for Kinect, with added clarity, and the voice-recognition is advanced enough to distinguish broad regional dialects with a pass rate in the high 90s percent-wise, according to Microsoft. Last FM, Sky and Xbox Live's other services have all undergone revamps to support Kinect functionality too, so you'll be able to bark orders like a maniac in some capacity at almost every one of the applications on your dashboard.

Ultimately however, it's the games that will make or break Kinect, as fundamentally there's no faulting the quality and capabilities of the technology itself. Microsoft has managed to deliver on its promise of controller free, erm... controls, as the device is both responsive and user-friendly and does offer proper 1:1 motion tracking as far as we can tell, with no apparent lag [Ed – Rich is referring to the device, as opposed to the software].

The only question left to answer then is, if the controller-free technology is all present and correct, is it the sum of its £129.99/$149.99 price tag? As we've already noted, that's to be decided by Kinect's line-up of games, which have a lot riding on them to justify the device as a shrewd purchase. However, as far as the tech goes, whatever concerns we had prior to the final build are nothing but a distant thought now as all of the creases are seemingly ironed out.

Diwali, being the festival of lights, lighting the lamp of knowledge within us means to understand and reflect upon the significant purpose of each of the five days of festivities and to bring those thoughts in to the day to day lives.

The five day of Diwali
The first day of Diwali is called Dhanvantari Triodasi or Dhanwantari Triodasi also called Dhan Theras. The second day of Diwali is called Narak Chaturdasi. It is the fourteenth lunar day (thithi) of the dark forthnight of the month of Kartik and the eve of Diwali. On this day Lord Krishna destroyed the demon Narakasur and made the world free from fear. The third day of Diwali is the actual Diwali. This is the day when worship for Mother Lakshmi is performed. On the fourth day of Diwali, Goverdhan Pooja is performed. The fifth day of the diwali is called Bhratri Dooj. It is a day dedicated to sisters.

Hindu Mythology
The Story of Rama and Sita: Lord Rama was a great warrior King who was exiled by his father Dashratha, the King of Ayodhya, along with his wife Sita and his younger brother Lakshman, on his wife's insistence. Lord Rama returned to his Kingdom Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, in which he put an end to the demon Ravana of Lanka, who was a great Pundit, highly learned but still evil dominated his mind. After this victory of Good over Evil, Rama returned to Ayodhya. In Ayodhya, the people welcomed them by lighting rows of clay lamps. So, it is an occasion in honor of Rama's victory over Ravana; of Truth's victory over Evil.

The Story of King Bali and Vamana Avatar(the Dwarf): The other story concerns King Bali, who was a generous ruler. But he was also very ambitious. Some of the Gods pleaded Vishnu to check King Bali's power. Vishnu came to earth in the form of a Vamana(dwarf) dressed as priest. The dwarf approached King Bali and said "You are the ruler of the three worlds: the Earth, the world above the skies and the underworld. Would you give me the space that I could cover with three strides?" King Bali laughed. Surely a dwarf could not cover much ground, thought the King, who agreed to dwarf's request. At this point, the dwarf changed into Vishnu and his three strides covered the Earth, the Skies and the whole Universe! King Bali was send to the underworld. As part of Diwali celebrations, some Hindus remember King Bali.

The Defeat of Narkasur by Lord Krishna: Lord Vishnu in his 8th incarnation as Krishna destroyed the demon Narkasura, who was causing great unhappiness amongst the people of the world. Narkasura was believed to be a demon of filth, covered in dirt. He used to kidnap beautiful young women and force them to live with him. Eventually, their cries for rescue were heard by Vishnu, who came in the form of Krishna. First, Krishna had to fight with a five-headed monster who guarded the demon's home. Narkasura hoped that his death might bring joy to others. Krishna granted his request and the women were freed. For Hindus, this story is a reminder that good can still come out of evil.

Krishna and The Mountain: In the village of Gokula, many years ago, the people prayed to the God Indra. They believed that Indra sent the rains, which made their crops, grow. But Krishna came along and persuaded the people to worship the mountain Govardhan, because the mountain and the land around it were fertile. This did not please Indra. He sent thunder and torrential rain down on the village. The people cried to Krishna to help. Krishna saved the villagers by lifting the top of the mountain with his finger. The offering of food to God on this day of Diwali is a reminder to Hindus of the importance of food and it is a time for being thankful to God for the bounty of nature.

दीप का सार्वभौमिक रूप सर्वकालिक और सनातन है। एक दीप दूसरे दीप के नीचे का अंधकार दूर करता है। ऋग्वेद में वर्णित है कि ऋतु और सत्य पहले उद्भूत हुए। रात्रि (अंधकार) और उसके बाद समुद्र (पानी) संवत्सर आदि उत्पन्न हुए। मैत्रेय उपनिषद में आया है-तमोबाहदमग्र आसीदेवम्। सर्वप्रथम यह सब एकाकी तम था अर्थात् तमोगुणी अंधकार था। कालांतर में इससे रज और सत्व हुए। एकता, समरसता और समानता के संगम से मानवीय मूल्यों का समावेश होता है। दीपों की पंक्तियां जब तक हर घर में नहीं जलेंगी तब तक मानवता में पूर्ण प्रकाश और शांति असंभव है।

Hawa Mahalis a palace in Jaipur, India. It was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, and designed by Lal Chand Usta in the form of the crown of Krishna, the Hindu god. Its unique five-storey exterior is also akin to the honeycomb of the beehive with its 953 small windows called jharokhas that are decorated with intricate lattice work. The original intention of the lattice was to allow royal ladies to observe everyday life in the street below without being seen, since they had to observe strict “purdah”

Built of red and pink sandstone, the palace is situated on the main thoroughfare in the heart of Jaipur’s business centre. It forms part of the City Palace, and extends to the Zenana or women’s chambers, the chambers of the harem. It is particularly striking when viewed early in the morning, lit with the golden light of sunrise.

The Mahal, called as the “specimen of fanciful architecture”, is located to the north of the Jaipur city, at the main road intersection called the Badi Chaupad (big four square). Jaipur city is well connected by road, rail and air links with the rest of the country. Jaipur Railway Station is a central main station on the broad gauge line of the Indian Railways. As well, Jaipur is connected by major highways, and by the International Airport at Sanganer, at a distance of 13 kilometres from the city.
